About Murals Murals - how to order a mural

Restaurant Mural

This mural was a commission for a local deli in Durban. The shop is situated near to a railway station and the mural was basically about the people that live in the area, and who frequent the shop.

This mural was painted around 1994/95, at the time when South Africa was going through massive political and social change. The mural celebrates the elative and almost utopian social consciousness of the day and the bright future for South Africa.

SAR stands for South African Railways, in case you were wondering...

Rugby World Cup 1995

This mural was a commission from the Umhlanga Town Council prior to the 1994 World Cup Rugby, held in South Africa. This was an amazing time for South Africa. It was the first time that SA had been re-included in international sport, following the demise of Apartheid. (the same year)

Not only was it our first World Cup Rugby event, but WE WON IT AS WELL!! And Mandela was out of jail, he was the State President, and he was probably the best Springbok mascot we could ever have had.

The mural was painted all the way along a pre-fab wall on the main road in Umhlanga, Natal. It was fun to do, because I painted it at night, with ironic free light from the police station floodlights across the road, and lots of donated pizzas from the locals. Umhlanga is one of South Africa’s leading tourist destinations and is a warm tropical town on the coast.

Oh ja, and there is also a painted score board inside the hotel. I got to meet Kabous, he was a famous SA rugby guy at the time…

Kiddies Bedroom Murals

Kiddie MuralThis is a mural for a kiddy’s bedroom. The little person wasn't born yet, so the images come from a collection of story books on the bookshelf.

Kiddie MuralThe only known fact was that the little person was a boy...

Snooker Room Mural

Hotel MuralThis is basically an image about 1.5 meters wide, by about 60 or 70cm high, as far as I can remember. It was painted above the doors leading to a big snooker room in a hotel. Difficult to photograph from that angle, but you get the idea... I hope...
